"In July 2013 I was commissioned to create a number of wooden artworks to be displayed in the Suites of the Four Seasons Hotel Resort at Manele Bay, Lanai, Hawaii. The island of Lanai, west of Maui, was recently acquired by Larry Ellison of Oracle. The project in question needed the use of Koa and Bloodwood. Whereby Koa is readily available, I knew that I may have difficulties finding a supplier of 8/4 kiln or air dried bloodwood. Indeed, after calling some major US suppliers of exotic lumber, I ended up with empty hands. I made further calls and was told by Tom of Wood Vendors, Vancouver, WA, that although he didn’t have it in stock at the time, he would however try to find some for me. Ten days later UPS delivered to my address 2 beautiful air dried planks of bloodwood totaling 12 board feet. I am extremely grateful to Wood Vendors for having make it possible for me to go ahead with this important project and use the species of timber specified by Four Seasons Resort, Lanai.
