    USES:  Boat building, marine projects, exterior applications, high end mill work, furniture and more.
    ORIGINS:  Native to Myanmar or Burma, India, Indonesia and Indo-China
    BOTANICAL NAME:  Tectona grandis
    COMMON NAME:  Genuine Teak, Burmese Teak
    COLOR DETAILS:  FEQ Grade Teak is pure heartwood which is reddish to golden brown. Sapwood is pale yellow to tan. Teak wood darkens naturally with UAV exposure.
    WEIGHT:  4.5 to 5.0 lbs. per board foot kiln dried.
    WORKABILITY:  Teak is easy to work with and mills very nicely. Finishes and glues well despite a very high oil content. Extremely durable with incomparable weathering properties.

    Teak, known botanically as Tectona grandis has a high oil and natural silica content making it one of the most durable species available for outdoor and high moisture applications.  It is highly resistant to climate extremes, insects, fungus, rot, and does not become slippery when wet.  It is truly one of the most versatile species of hardwood available and is routinely used in high end residential and commercial applications.  There are a few species that are used as alternatives to Teak such as Afrormosia & Iroko.  These are great, less expensive substitutes but no specie performs as well as Teak for exterior applications or high moisture environments.
